Inside Alvar Aalto’s house - I was able to visit Alvar Aalto’s house when I was in Helsinki last week. The home was designed by Alvar and Aino to be their home and office. The building was finished in 1936. Today you can take a tour (in English!). The building intersects their home and office spaces in what I thought was an interesting and successful way. I was further impressed and fascinated by Aalto’s work after visiting Helsinki for the first time. Helsinki’s historic architecture feels so classic Eastern European, which makes Aalto’s work that much more remarkable to me.
